Managing Facebook Fan pages for exciting companies, books, authors, publishers, and beyond.

The FFP (Facebook Fan Page) Basic Basics

The best way to create a community around your book on Facebook.com is via a Fan Page. Each newly created page comes standard with Facebook's basic tools (Info, Events, Photos, etc). Once you get a handle on that, there's a dizzying array of customization options to improve your page & attract/retain fans.

I will be posting on both basic and advanced options here on EverPub. If you have a specific question or topic, shoot an email my way: booksonfacebook at gmail dot com

Now, for everyone who’s thinking of starting their own Fan Page sometime soon, here’s a short set-up guide.

Step 1: Use A Facebook Account - If you don’t have a Facebook account, you must set one up to create a Fan Page. If you do, go ahead and create your Fan Page while you are logged in to you personal Facebook account. Don’t worry about merging personal & business; your personal info is never displayed or linked to the Fan Page.

Step 2: Navigate Towards Set-Up - Once logged in to Facebook, scroll to the bottom on the Home Page and click on “Advertising,” then “Pages” on the subsequent page. Now click the big “Create a Page” button.

Step 3: Set Your Page Category - Congrats, your set-up has begun! Next, you’re ready to choose the Category of Page you want to create. This selection changes the type of options and starting tools Facebook enables for your page. You should play around with this a little (or check other Pages) to see what you like. If you want to skip ahead, the “Writer” selection in the Artist, Band, or Public Figure drop-down menu is a great match for most authors.

Step 4: Give Your Page a Name - Select a name for your page. This should either be the Author Name or the title of the book. It is important to note that Facebook does NOT allow you to change you Page name after this step, so pick one you want to stick with.

Step 5: View Options - Select the option “Do not make Page publicly visible at this time. (You will be able to edit and publish later.)” This will allow you to play around with your newly created Page a bit before sharing it with the rest of the Facebook community.

Step 6: Create Page – Click the big blue “Create Page” button. You’re now in the admin portal for your page. Have fun playing around with the options and check back here for more tips, explanations, and info.
